Behind the Scenes

Nom Crustacia is a parody of Mol Calamari/Dac/Mon Cala from Star Wars. In deciding on the name, the crew threw out the usual ideas for parodying the name. One of the funnier ideas was Poké Cephalopod, where Mon became Poké (as in Pokémon) and Calamari became Cephalopod.
